Sestriere is the elite resort created from nothing by the Agnelli family on the wide hill between Cal Chisone and Susa Valley, in Piedmont, at 2035 m of altitude. Being an host of Alpine Skiing World Cup, it benefitted of huge investments for renewing its facilities for 2006 Olympic Games. Slalom races take place on a wonderful slope lightened at night, Kandahar Giovanni Alberto Agnelli (see video), which is located in a central area, finishes in the village and is served by the Cit Roc chairlift. The Sises slope, dedicated to Gianni Agnelli since 2004, starts from the foot of mount Sises; it is a very difficult, technical run. The downhill is hosted by the Kandahar Banchetta Giovanni Nasi slope (see video), going down from 2807 meters along the Monte Motta and Monte Banchetta sides, to 1730 meters, in Borgata Sestriere (at the beginning, on the wall, you reach the point of maximum slope, with a 58.5% gradient). If you love enjoying yourself among bumps and gorges, you can try the slopes 32 Motta and 5 Sises. In total, alpine skiing black slopes are five, for an amount of 20 Km. In the lowest part, a plain area suitable for beginners offers 42 Km in 10 slopes. Most slopes are suitable for intermediate skiers: 20 slopes in 102 Km. In front of the World Cup slopes, there is a less used side, where you will find the connection with Sansicario through the peak of Mount Fraiteve. From here, you can choose to go to Sauze dā€™Oulze or to Sansicario. The 164 Km of skiing area in Sestriere become 400 Km if we count the whole Via Lattea ski area, of which Sestriere is the centre. This ski resort has a wide offer: from heliski to snowmobile excursions (0122 755444), excursions in snowshoes or with sled dogs, from ski-mountaineering to off-piste (guide 335 6601940), from cross-country skiing in Monterotta (0122755016) to ice skating (the rink is located in front of the ski lifts 0122 755444). In ever season, you will also find many spas, a sport palace, a green with 18 holes (0122 799411), a covered swimming pool with warm water (0122 798401), a cinema, a disco and many clubs to fully enjoy your holidays.
