A modern gondola lift will take you over Sella Prevala, at 2133 m, in Sella Golovec; a chairlift and a slope reach Bovec. You can buy a single ski pass including the whole skiing area.
Sella Nevea-Bovec skiing area is rather snow-covered: northern cold air crashing against hot-humid southern air causes huge snowfalls. In 2009, the total amount of fallen snow was over 13 meters! Even at lower altitudes the cold is intense: in the nearby Fusine, at 780 m, they had had -40oC. At 1800 m you will find Sella Prevala valley, one of the lowest snowfields in Europe. Sella Nevea has a good sport tradition: for 47 years, one of the most beautiful races of Men European Cup – Duca d’Aosta Cup – have been hosted here. Moreover, the “Super Canin” slope hosts two stages of the World Cup, and it also hosted Italian Juniores Championships in 2000, World Juniores Championships in 2002, and Universiadi in 2003. Every year, there is also a “classic” of European ski mountaineering on Monte Canin, usually on the 25th of April. Here you will find one of the four World Cup jumps.
In Sella Nevea, there are the headquarters of FIS Training Center, a branch of the international centre for training in fast alpine skiing disciplines. On Gilberti slopes, you will find an amusing natural snow park. On the Italian side, the more classical freeride routes starts from Sella Golovec, at the left of Funifor Slovita arrival, and meet in many points the Canin slope. The whole area stretching between Poviz, Leupa, Cergnala and the arrival of the old Canin cable car can be considered as a giant amusement park for freeride lovers.
