Abetone is one of the better ski resorts on the Apennines and historic destination for winter tourism in Italy. The centre of this skiing area is the gondola lift connecting the village to Monte Gomito, from where you can go down three challenging slopes dedicated to the past champion Zeno Colò, who was born here. Abetone is one of the better ski resorts on the Apennines and historic destination for winter tourism in Italy. The centre of this skiing area is the gondola lift connecting the village to Monte Gomito, from where you can go down three challenging slopes dedicated to the past champion Zeno Colò, who was born here. The carousel spreads over several valleys: from Monte Gomito you go down on one side to Val di Luce, where you will find some chairlifts and a ski school area, and to Pulicchio; on the other side you go towards the skiing area served by Le Regine-Sestaione chairlift. The four valleys Val di Luce, Valle dello Scoltenna, Valle del Sestaione and Val di Lima are well connected one to another and offers a total of 45 Km of alpine skiing slopes. In the past, this ski area stretched towards Campolino, too, with a basket lift and two platter lifts no longer in use.

Most slopes are covered by a snowmaking system with 46 snow makers and 9 snow groomers. Every year, Abetone hosts the European Cup races, and in the past it hosted also World Cup races – the sole case in the Apennines.

There also is a cross-country skiing ring that reaches 18 Km. We recommend the downhills in the moonlight in full-moon nights with a dinner high in the shelter, the excursions with snowshoes, and the Nordic walking routes in the woods covered in snow. If you want to relax, in Val di Luce you will find a modern fitness and wellness centre.
