Valtournenche is a village lying at 1500 m of altitude in the homonymous valley. Its history is deeply related to Cervinia, to which it is connected and it dues much of its success. Valtournenche is a village lying at 1500 m of altitude in the homonymous valley. Its history is deeply related to Cervinia, to which it is connected and it dues much of its success. Indeed, thanks to a fast gondola lift going from the village to the slopes at 2200 m of altitude, you can avoid the last 10 Km of route leading to the more famous Breuil Cervinia. Moreover, there you can easily find a parking space in the free car park near the ski lifts starting point. In the village, you also find a free shuttle service that takes skiers to the gondola lift. From Valtournenche you can reach Zermatt with Plateau Rosa cable car, through Cervinia skiing area. To cross the frontier, you will need a valid identity card and a ski pass extended to the Swiss area. Valtournenche, Breuil Cervinia and Zermatt ski areas are parts of the Italian-Switzerland Matterhorn Ski Paradise ski area. In the last years, ski lifts in Valtournenche have been updated, and many sky tows left their place to modern chair lifts. The slopes are very high – except for the home run slope –, not so crowded, and go down closed gorges that are really evocative. There are many trails for ski mountaineering lovers. Among them, you will find a reserved slope long 7 Km with a drop of 1300 m. Valtournenche is the cradle of the famous Matterhorn mountain guides. In Cime Bianche, at the starting point of the baby platter lift, you will find an amusement park with two magic carpets, inflatables, and a merry-go-round, created for 3 to 8 years old children. You will find a snow-tubing run to go down on the snow without skis. In Salette, there is a snow park with jumps, rail line and pipe, suitable for beginners and served by magic carpets. In a panoramic area, you can enjoy some rings suitable for snowshoes walks long 3, 5, or 7 Km.
