Terminillo
Terminillo is an historical Italian ski resort, known as “Rome’s mountain”, even if it actually is near Rieti, because of the many tourists coming from the capital city. Terminillo is an historical Italian ski resort, known as “Rome’s mountain”, even if it actually is near Rieti, because of the many tourists coming from the capital city. After its splendour and its development in the 60s and 70s, now Terminillo is facing a period of decay; but this situation could change if the projects for a connection with Leonessa Campo Stella will become real.
Terminillo ski area stretches between Terminilluccio and Terminilletto, with altitudes between 1600 and 2100 m. About 30 Km of slopes, 10 of which for alpine skiing, are served by Società Funivia Terminillo s.r.l., that can carry up to 6000 people per hour. An historical cable car (built in the 30s) takes skiers from Pian de’Valli villages to Terminilluccio. From here, a chairlift takes to Terminilletto, from where you can enjoy the most technical slopes of this ski area.
In 2006, in summer, Togo platter lift was replaced by a magic carpet, while Due-Due Bis double platter lift was replaced by a four-seat chairlift. These new ski lifts, together with a general high quality tourist offer, leave some hope for a better future for this ski resort, so that Terminillo area could be properly exploited.
Near Rieti, you can ski also in Selvarotonda di Cittareale.
