San Vigilio

San Vigilio di Marebbe is a famous ski resort in the heart of Kronplatz ski area. The arrival of winter tourism produced a pleasant development of this village that, as many others resorts in South Tyrol, succeeded in maintaining its country style, avoiding sky-scrapers and other buildings not in line with the mountain style. San Vigilio lies at 1201 m in a basin of Valle di Marebbe, that is next to Val Badia. The village is crossed by a short gondola lift, taking the skiers from a side of the valley to the other side. In fact, you can ski on both sides. On one side, you go down towards San Martin de Tor, while on the other side you can reach - your skis on – Bruneck and Olang. Beside the tradition, you find modernity, too, especially in ski lifts. The Pedagà/Piz de Plaies gondola lift, for example, has two separate boarding points depending on your destination. Some gondolas come down to the valley after the first stop, while the others go up on the top, thanks to a system of points designed by Doppelmair. The slopes are well covered in snow, also thanks to a snowmaking system, and offer different levels: for experts, like the Erta, or easy, like the ski school areas on Miara or Pedagà, that arrive to the village. Hikers will find some routes on the Fanes-Senes-Braies Natural Park, while ski-mountaineers will find some routes on the peaks of Dolomites or Zillertal Alps. For cross-country skiers, a 23 Km long trail, starting in the village and winding in the Park with rings of 0.5 – 3.5 – 6 – 8 – 10 Km. Kronplatz ski area includes, besides San Vigilio di Marebbe, Bruneck, Olang, and San Martin de Tor, all of them reachable with your skis on.
