Breuil Cervinia
Breuil Cervinia ski resort is among the biggest and more extraordinary resorts in Italy: its 350 Km of slopes run among magnificent mountains (like Matterhorn and Monte Rosa), connecting Cervinia and Valtournenche Italian resorts with the Swiss Zermatt in Matterhorn Ski Paradise ski area. Beware: if you want to cross the frontier, you will need a valid Identity Card and a ski pass extended to the Swiss side. Cervinia alone counts 46 slopes, for a total length of 150 Km. Cervinia alone counts 46 slopes, for a total length of 150 Km. Among alpine ski slopes, Ventina is an important one: in 11 Km, it covers the homonymous glacier, from Plateau Rosà to Cervinia, at 2000 m of altitude. Slopes are gentle, and difficult ones are very few, except for the black slope on Matterhorn, nearby Cretaz and Cielo Alto areas. You may find interesting the ski route on Theodul glacier, too. Snowboard lovers will enjoy the Indian Park in Plan Maison. There, snowfall is excellent: due to the altitude, snow is always perfect, even in summer, when you can ski on 26.5 Km of slopes on Plateau Rosà. Tourists are lucky: they are not left in the cold! In fact, two gondola cableways, five covered chair lifts, and one cable car containing up to 140 people serve the area. Along the years, Cervinia has seen a process of ski lift rationalization, which led to a diminished number of ski lifts in the same ski area through the creation of wider facilities.
If you enjoy cross-country skiing, you can find 3 Km of slopes at Breuil Cervinia, at 2050 meters of altitude, at the town’s gates. Then, in Valtournenche, near Champlève (at 1524 meters of altitude), you will find a ring long about 4 Km. Last but not least, Maen cross-country ski slope (3 Km away from Valtournenche), offers a 6.5 Km long route covered in natural snow.
