The first ski lift in Bardonecchia, in Susa Valley, was built in 1934. Since then, many other slopes were built to reach the 100 Km of alpine skiing slopes and 23 ski lifts we have now. You will find two ski areas that are not connected by any ski lifts, but with a free shuttle service starting from the village. Jafferau is the smaller ski area, but it offers a higher altitude, with an average of 2800m. You will find two ski areas that are not connected by any ski lifts, but with a free shuttle service starting from the village. Jafferau is the smaller ski area, but it offers a higher altitude, with an average of 2800m. The other ski area, Colomion – Les Arnauds – Melezet, is wider, and it includes many little villages reachable with your skis on. Here, the snowmaking system is especially efficient and widespread. The slopes cross the woods, starting from Campo Smith, at 1330 meters, to Vallon Cros area, at 2400 meters, where you will find a beautiful black slope. The little ones can enjoy four green slopes: one baby with a magic carpet, two baby with a platter lift and a magic carpet in Campo Smith, and a baby with a platter lift in Melezet. Snowboarders have a well-equipped snow park, with an Olympic half pipe, opened and lightened every Saturday night; it covers 1200m, is equipped with a stereo system, and is divided in beginners and medium areas. You will find it at the starting point of Melzet ski lifts. Bardonecchia was picked as host for all the snowboard competitions of 2006 Olympic Games in Turin. This ski resort offers 22 Km of runs for cross-country skiing, routes for walks with snowshoes, snow tubing facilities, an ice rink and many attractions in the village. You can reach it with the A32 motorway Torino-Bardonecchia, with the train line Rome-Paris (Bardonecchia station) or taking the state highway of Susa Valley.
